The beautiful hand-drawn landscapes are sure to please Hollow Knight fans. In some ways, Pronty’s world reminded me of Bioshock’s Rapture, with many areas featuring 1930s art deco architecture. The once great city of Royla is under threat by a giant fish called Rashka who has razed nearby cities to the ground. You play as a gilled creature called Pronty, and have a sidekick eel called Bront, who doubles as a javelin that can be thrown at enemies. Rather than feel like you’re wading through treacle, movement is super slick. Now, underwater levels and worlds, traditionally, get derided in video games, but 18Light’s game, gets everything right. If you’re looking for a great indie to scratch that Hollow Knight itch before Silksong comes along next year, then I urge you to check out Pronty: A Fishy Tale, a metroidvania set entirely underwater. On top of all of this they use the art style to highlight the environmental state that our oceans are in currently. There’s tons of secrets in the game for you to find which gives a lot of replay-ability. The boss fights in the game are super fun while also being challenging, which gives you a huge sense of accomplishment when you finally beat one. Each area is completely different than the last. The enemies are beyond unique in terms of both how they fight, and the way they look. secondly the fighting mechanics in the game are really unique as your main character is not actually fighting, you are controlling a secondary character which doubles as a javelin that fights while you are able to dodge with your main character. first off, the art style is just absolutely stunning and super cute I fell in love with it right away. When I first saw the game I thought to myself, yeah this game seems interesting might be a bit of fun to try out, almost immediately after starting the game and I realised just how amazing of a game it actually was. Pronty is also scheduled to come to Switch and Xbox in the first quarter of 2022, though it’s tough to imagine how those mouse-driven controls are going to work on a gamepad. A terrifying array of hostile and mutated sea life The opening hour or so of Pronty is pretty slow, with a load of exposition and dialogue to run through, but the strength of the combat has me interested to see where it goes. Eventually you’ll get abilities like a dash that marks enemies for extra damage from the javelin’s attacks, forcing you to control yourself and your weapon in ever-tighter concert. But Pronty moves slowly while directing the javelin, and you still have to dodge attacks – so basically, you’re controlling two characters at once. Your javelin attacks wherever you click, and you can mash your mouse button to lay out attacks on the enemies.
